Planning ahead is a gift to the people you love. My aim is to help structure your estate to avoid probate where possible, reduce unnecessary complications, and ease the burden on your loved ones. Together, we can put your wishes in writing and identify the people you trust to act for you.

I’m Steve Hanft, a Michigan attorney since 2011. I’m a senior attorney at Bagley & Langan, PLLC, where I have practiced for more than 15 years and serve as managing attorney. Based in Waterford, Michigan, I offer personal attention backed by the experience and resources of an established firm. I’m also admitted to practice in federal court and have participated on trial teams in cases resulting in significant verdicts.
Northern Michigan will always be part of who I am. I grew up there and maintain homes in both West Branch and Waterford, keeping close ties to both communities. Outside the office, I enjoy being outdoors, hunting, and playing cornhole. I’m also a dog lover—my two dogs, Sparky and Scooby, are a big part of my life.
I believe good representation starts with compassion and a willingness to listen. I bring clear communication, a quick wit, and a practical, creative approach to solving problems. Whether you’re facing an injury claim or planning for your family’s future, I take the time to understand your concerns, explain your options, and think beyond the obvious to find a path that serves you.

Words from the family of a client I represented in an auto insurance dispute.
“If you need an attorney I recommend this firm 10 out of 10, especially Steve Hanft!
He worked so diligently with my husband battling his auto insurance company to get him a settlement he deserved after he was in a car accident. He gave the case his all while being easy to communicate with and accommodating many changes we have needed throughout to get signatures ect as we moved states in the middle of the case. I seriously cannot recommend him and this firm enough!”
